Trailhead Fire Updates

Last updated: 7/18/16 @ 9:50 AM

Fire Information #: 530-303-7006

Acreage/Containment: 5,646 acres - 100% contained
County: Placer & El Dorado Counties
Location: along the  Middle Fork of the American River near Todd Valley
Administrative Unit: CAL FIRE Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit / El Dorado National Forest
Date Started: June 28, 2016 - 1:55 PM

Cause: Under Investigation
Injuries: 3

Unified Command: NorCal Interagency Incident Management Team 2 is managing the fire on behalf of CAL FIRE and the U.S. Forest Service.
Assisting Agencies: Placer County Sheriff’s Office, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, and local fire departments from across the region.

Current Situation:

The Eldorado National Forest has management of the fire. Crews will remain in place and working for the duration of the fire, and updates will continue until the fire is 100% contained, and then be generated as needed. The fire information line number will remain the same.

The fire remained quiet overnight, with the last piece of open line (on the southwest corner) burning down to the river yesterday. Mop up and suppression repair continued around the rest of the fire. Suppression repair includes putting in erosion mitigation measures, like waterbars, which divert the flow of water off the fire line, and chipping, which aids in the revegetation of recently burned areas.

Unburned islands of vegetation inside the perimeter will continue to burn in the coming days, and residents and visitors in the area should expect to see smoke. Prior fuels reduction projects within the burned area assisted significantly in slowing of the progress of the fire.

Evacuations:
All evacuations on the fire on the Trailhead Fire were lifted as of 5pm on July 6, 2016. Although crew sizes have been reduced significantly. Fire traffic is still heavy as firefighters work to fully contain the fire. Please drive slowly and use caution on roadways.

Road/Area Closures:
As of July 7, 2016, access to the Middle Fork of the American River from Oxbow Reservoir put-in to Ruck‐A‐Chucky take-out is OPEN.
